My Life Plans As of Right Now

I read a book called Wealth within Your Reach: Pera Mo Palaguin Mo by Francisco J. Colayco. The book mentions a study on people who wrote down their financial plans and those who didn’t. The researchers checked in on these people after 20 years and discovered that the ones who had written plans generated more income.

If this can work with financial plans, then maybe it will work for an entire life plan.

Some of these things have already happened to me, but I still wanted to include them in this post to remind myself that this is the kind of life that I want to maintain:

1. Get a job that I love

I want to be excited to go to work. More and more people are telling me that everybody hates their jobs, so I better suck it up and pick the least dreadful one. I know there is no perfect job, but there is a job that’s perfect for me. Here’s how I would define a perfect job:

Creative and Intellectual

I want a job that satisfies both my creative side and intellectual side. Not that I’m saying that creative is not intellectual and vise versa because of course they crossover. Still, there are some distinctions.

One side of me is an artist. She’s the one who writes essays, stories, poems, songs. She sings, draws, creates crafts, and cooks. She has fallen in love with movies, tv shows, novels, memoirs, other non-fiction books, TED videos, and awesome articles on the net.

1. Pei Pa Koa

Why debaters love it: This was the most popular throat soothing thing when I was debating. We’d have a whole bag of Pei Pa Koa during tournaments, and by the end of the tournament, we’d have finished that whole bag. We love it because it tastes good, and it’s effective without the overly-minty taste.

The downside: We got so sad when we found out that it has formaldehyde.

The most important part of writing is revising, and it’s easier to revise if you have lots of editors working on your story. Fortunately, I have three. The two of them are split personalities of Ja the editor—Ja the debater and Ja the artist.

One of the things that I like about the Ateneo Debate Society (ADS) is when we share the tidbits of wisdom that we’ve discovered. I remember Glenn telling me about this lecture by Father David where he talks about how men and women sit. Men tend to stretch their arms to the side with their legs open, or they sit na naka de quatro. If a woman did this, even if she were wearing jeans, it would be deemed improper. She is asked to sit with her legs together or to cross her legs. This shows how society allows men to occupy more space, while women are expected to reduce their bodies, mimicking a fetal position.

I can’t believe this is my 100th post. I just want to say thank you to my readers. You don’t know how happy you make me whenever I see my blog stats going up or when people like my posts or leave comments. I’m so glad I discovered blogging. I wanted to celebrate my 100th post by dedicating it to gratefulness. I want to remind myself about all the good things in my life, and hopefully this will make you guys smile.

1. I have a great mother.

She gives me advice and inspires me to chase my dreams. She’s a single mother who raised me on her own. She’s also a feminist who inspires me to stand up for women’s rights.
