My Life Plans As of Right Now

I read a book called Wealth within Your Reach: Pera Mo Palaguin Mo by Francisco J. Colayco. The book mentions a study on people who wrote down their financial plans and those who didn’t. The researchers checked in on these people after 20 years and discovered that the ones who had written plans generated more income.

If this can work with financial plans, then maybe it will work for an entire life plan.

Some of these things have already happened to me, but I still wanted to include them in this post to remind myself that this is the kind of life that I want to maintain:

1. Get a job that I love

I want to be excited to go to work. More and more people are telling me that everybody hates their jobs, so I better suck it up and pick the least dreadful one. I know there is no perfect job, but there is a job that’s perfect for me. Here’s how I would define a perfect job:

Creative and Intellectual

I want a job that satisfies both my creative side and intellectual side. Not that I’m saying that creative is not intellectual and vise versa because of course they crossover. Still, there are some distinctions.

One side of me is an artist. She’s the one who writes essays, stories, poems, songs. She sings, draws, creates crafts, and cooks. She has fallen in love with movies, tv shows, novels, memoirs, other non-fiction books, TED videos, and awesome articles on the net.

After the Laguna Blogging Summit, I attended the Digital Influencers Marketing Summit. Am I a summit addict now? I guess ever since I attended iBlog8: The 8th Philippine Blogging Summit, I’m like, I want more!

The Cybercrime Law

The hottest topic of the summit was the Cybercrime Law. Atty. JJ Disini started his discussion by saying that when legislators crafted this bill, they had Business Process Outsourcing companies in mind.

BPO companies were afraid of doing business in the Philippines because their data wasn’t protected by the law. In case of a breach in their private data, they wanted to make sure that there were legal courses that they could use to penalize those hackers.

The problem is, legislators did not realize that the BPOs were not the only ones who were custodians of information. Every person is a custodian of information, and that is why everyone will be affected by this bill.

So the purpose of the bill is well meaning, but Atty. Disini said the way it is crafted is “sloppy”, and more so it is dangerous because certain provisions open the floodgates to abuse.

If you’ve read In Defense of Facebookyou’ll know that I love Facebook, but what I don’t love are the yucky pictures that people post. Whether they are close up shots of cockroaches and other insects, pictures of bloody people, and other yucky stuff.

Dear Future Employer,

I want to be a cyberworld reporter. My duties will be to surf the net, especially social media sites, and to write about the controversies that erupt online. Media outlets have started reporting about tweets and Facebook stats, but there hasn’t been a special breed of reporters who are assigned to actually focus on hunting for storylines in the cyberworld.

Like normal reporters, cyberworld reporters will have beats too–a Facebook beat, a Twitter beat, a Tumblr beat, a Pinterest beat, etc. Besides reporting on breaking news, they will also map out each cyber terrain, analyze the groups and factions in each cyber hub, and identify the social norms, ethics, and politics of each realm.

What made me realize that there was a viable market for these storylines?

When someone comments on something you posted or sends you a message on Facebook, you get notifications. There are times that you can’t get back to them right away (or you can’t answer them yet, or you’re hiding from someone who is online, etc.), but since you’ve already clicked on the message or the notification, there is a danger that you might forget to reply.
