When I started writing this back when I was in college, I wrote the first stanza and the chorus in a positive frame of mind. When I revisited it in Nov. 2018, I wanted to continue writing it but I was no longer so hopeful about love. After thinking about what to do with it, I realized that I can transform the line “I wanna believe in love” from hopeful to critical of the naivete of believing, and I added a hint of blasphemy, which is always fun to do.
The lines “I just never got to cross, That friendship bridge to boys,” refers to an actual bridge between the all-girls school that I was in and the all-boys school that was next to us. That bridge is actually called “the friendship bridge” and it was where the girls would go meet up with the boys, and engage in more than just friendship. If you are not aware of that, the phase also kinda works metaphorically.

I Wanna Believe in Love
by Age of the Diary
I.
I was in an all-girls school,
Up until high school,
I just never got to cross,
That friendship bridge to boys,
Imprisoned in a world of females,
So when it was time,
To fall in love,
I knew nothing,
I just knew how to screw up.
But, I’m determined,
Determined to believe in love,
Yes, I am stubborn,
I’m stubborn about believing,
I’m stubborn about positive thinking
Coz
Chorus:
I wanna believe (Oh oh)
I wanna believe in love (You know)
I wanna believe (Oh oh)
I wanna believe in love (You know)
I wanna believe (Oh oh)
I wanna believe in love (You know)
I’m the rejected girl who wants to believe in love
II.
I am scared of commitment
Coz my love left me after
Four months and I was so ashamed
That I didn’t marry the first one
I fell in love with
Now the perfect females
My Catholic friends say I’m a slut
But here’s my verdict
Love is guilty as fuck
Yes, I am hopeless
I’m a hopeless romantic
Will I wake up and see I’m in deep shit
Coz
(Chorus)
Bridge:
I’ll even say hallelujah
I will say hallelujah
Can you say hallelujah
Let’s all say hallelujah
Chorus 2:
We all wanna believe (Oh oh)
We wanna believe in love (You know)
We wanna believe (Oh oh)
We wanna believe in love (You know)
We wanna believe (Oh oh)
We wanna believe in love (You know)
There’s no proof at all
But we want to believe in love
